"The Four Star"
September/October Edition No. 5 - 10
Commanders Message Hello Everyone I pray your doing fine. Welcome to our new Members. This is some crazy weather we are having (smile), from all that snow, to a record breaking June and July heat, and August is our hottest month. Wow! This years Convention at Ocean City was well attended, better than last years. well we did not get a Three Star or Four Star award this year, but Department is stopping that. We did get one award for Special Olympics (Summer Games) so thanks to the great efforts of our Past Commander Glenn Butler and Melvin Streeter. Those guys do such a great job on all our Special Olympics events: bowling, swimming, basketball, and the Summer and Winter Games, but we can always use more help with all these events, so if you can, give us a hand. "Help", that's the word I must keep saying about the state of our financial status. This is your Post, and everyone should know our current financial status is not good. It is our responsibility to assist in maintaining our Post Home. We will need your help and support to make it through these difficult times. Whatever way you can, coming up to lunch is a start. Got some ideas for a "Fundraiser"? Let's all pull together and keep our Home straight. Also don't forget to get your dues on early so you can become one of thy "Early Birds" and attend our Early Bird Dinner. The cut-off to get your dues in for this is November 1st, and the Early Bird Dinner will be November 13th.

Auxiliary Chaplain I am very sorry to report that our oldest member, Pearle Weidner, had a fall in her apartment and fractured her neck. She spent several in P. G. Hospital and will be moved to Renaissance Gardens, Riderwood Complex 3160, Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, MD 20904. By the time you get this newsletter, I hope she will be receiving your cards and letters. Note to our members - we have a new Chaplain for the yearsv2010 - 2011. She is Patricia Glover-Davies and her phone number is (301) 704-6794. Pat is still busy at her job, so if you can't reach her to report illnesses of our Unit members, etc. you can still call me at (301) 937-3133 and I'll pass the information on to her. It has been a pleasure for me to serve as your Chaplain for the past four years and would like to thank everyone for all the help they've given me. Some of us older members are stepping aside to give some younger members some experience as Unit officers. We are all still active, and hope that more ladies will be joining us and getting involved. All we do in the Unit pays big dividends in our local communities. Stay safe, healthy and happy. Mary Keller Past Unit Chaplain

Legion Membership Directory Project Question? How many of our members have needed a "specialist" in the past? An electrician, a plumber, someone to fix the furnace, repair the roof, cut down a tree, or install a carpet, or many other services we all need in maintaining our homes. Wouldn't it be better to hire a Veteran - a Legion member? I think if you have to "pay someone" money, I would rather give it to someone who's a veteran. Who knows, you may get a "preferred member discount" on the cost of the work you need done, and if not (we all have to make money to take care of our families), I think at the very least you could expect a "high quality" level of work. After all, these people are not gonna disappear next week and never be heard from again! You'll probably see them at next month's meeting! Or at the next "Crab Feast" or "Spaghetti Dinner'. So if you would like to be included in our "Post Membership Directory" - please fill in the form below and send it to the Post c/o Elando Lindsey or Larry Schaffer. If you'd like, send in your business card to be included in the Post directory. We are thinking of printing a small pamphlet with the collected info that will be available to our members. None of the info will be made available to any third party people. your confidentiality is assured. This is for access to our own Post members. As it says in our preamble - "to consecrate and sanctify our devotion to mutual helpfulness". If I need a "plumber" - I'd rather give you my money, instead of someone I pulled out of th phone book I don't even know!
